How often do you call a loved one just to chat? Let’s see what happens if we make the effort to reach out more.
Taking the time to do something you’ve been meaning to do for a while feels really, really good. I have a growing list of people that I want to check in with but I almost never follow through. So as a little experiment, this week I’ll be calling a loved one each day. With social media and texting, calling a friend or family member becomes rare and is usually saved for special occasions. Calls so often have to do with making plans or asking for money (let’s be real). I mean really, how often do you call someone just to chat?
Some people are great at staying in touch. I like to think I am but when I really take a look at the effort I put in, it’s pretty minimal. I feel so confident in my relationships that I don’t feel the need to stay in front of my loved ones all the time. I know that our love for each other is stronger than to let time get in the way. But I always come back to thinking about the amount of missed opportunities to connect with them. I love spending time with my family and friends so why is it such a hassle to stay in touch? It’s got to be some kind of mental block.
This week, I will call a loved one each day even if I only have 30 minutes to do so. It won’t be enough time to catch up, but the gesture will feel so good for so many reasons. I hope you’ll join me in this challenge. I’d love to hear what you get from it. Don’t have 30 minutes to spare? Let’s fix that.
People I’ll be calling (so you can hold me accountable):
- My aunt Cay
- My brother Aaron
- My parents Gordon and Doris
- My bestie Kate
- My girl Gaby
- My girl Zoe
- My boy Dylan
